Not Hearing Can Be Maddening

“3-2-1…!” While many people count the seconds to a win for their favorite college basketball team, others may be counting their patience with a family member or friend. This time of year everyone is talking about college basketball and March Madness, yet for many the term ‘madness’ is not as exciting. In particular, hearing loss sufferers and their loved ones may be struggling to effectively communicate. Something as simple as conversing during a college basketball game can be difficult for a father with hearing loss and his son or daughter. In this blog we will look at the tendency to put off treating hearing loss until frustrations reach their limit and how this can be avoided.
The average new hearing aid wearer admits to having dealt with hearing loss five to seven years prior to getting a hearing evaluation. During this time, gradual strains have been put on their abilities and enjoyment in conversing with others including in-person and on the phone. These individuals may also give in to various coping mechanisms in an attempt to manage their hearing loss including turning their head to favor one ear, listening to TV at loud volumes or worst of all – withdrawing from social events. Frustrations typically build for the person with hearing loss as well as their loved ones who wish they would seek proper treatment.
This on-going frustration can be maddening. If you or a loved one is suffering from untreated hearing loss don’t let it get the best of you this March. Put a stop to the ‘madness’ early on and seek care with our complimentary hearing consultation.
